Eligibility Requirements

age requirement

If you are over eighteen years of age, you may apply to study at the Australian College of Complementary Medicine.

background experience

Work experience in related natural health fields is

desirable, but not essential, as the course is complete in itself and does not require prior professional qualification. Educational qualification equivalent to the Higher School Certificate or Victorian Certificate of Education (HSC/VCE) standard is strongly recommended, but an alternative background may be assessed at initial interview. The key requirement is for the applicant to be able to read and write to a HSC equivalent standard which may be demonstrated either by:

· completion of HSC or equivalent

· active work experience

· other certificate of diploma level study

enrolment interviews

We conduct telephone interviews for all international course applicants. The objective of the interviews is to:

• determine levels of interest and motivation to take

the course

• establish strategies through which a student may

enhance their ability to adequately participate in

and complete the course with respect to matters of cognitive and social skills

• establish any physical health, mental health or

disability which would inhibit the ability of a student to adequately participate in and complete the course.

For example, personal problems which are ongoing and interfering significantly with cognitive, emotional and interpersonal functioning

• at the conclusion of the interview determine

strategies which would assist a student who has

inhibiting physical health, mental health or a disability to adequately participate in and complete the course.

NB: The college is willing to phone students for these interviews and be responsible for the cost.

english language

Classes are conducted in English. International

students considering enrolling in the Certificate, Diploma courses must be fluent in English to an acceptable TOEFL 550 or IELTS 6.0 standard. If you do not have these qualifications or additional study of English is required, organizations that have lessons available can be found on the Useful Websites Page.

Copy of TOEFL or IELTS Certificate is required to be provided with your Application.

health insurance

International students are required by DIAC to arrange health cover insurance during their stay in Australia. Australian Health Management and Medibank Private are recommended by the College as providers of Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). Refund of OSHC payment may be paid if students decide not to come to Australia, or depart prior to agreed term of insurance for reasons beyond their control. Approximate cost of OSHC insurance is $300 - $350 per year. OSHC fees are refundable if your stay in Australia is changed.

The college will assist students with completing forms and obtaining health cover insurance if they require.

disability policy

The college will consider applications for enrolment from students with a disability. Certain physical, learning or mental health conditions can have a significant impact on a person’s ability to study. While the college will do all it can feasibly do to accommodate students with a disability, our courses do generally require a certain level of literacy and able-bodiedness for students to fully benefit from the course.

Please speak with one of our course advisors about any physical or learning disability which might affect your studies or which may require special considerations or additional resources.

student visa considerations

The Australian College of Complementary Medicine

is required to advise the Department of Immigration

and Citizenship (DIAC) any time an

international student:

- changes contact details or address

- fails to commence a course as agreed

- ceases to participate in a course

Please note that students are required by DIAC to

maintain satisfactory examination results. The College is required by law to notify DIAC if these requirements are not being met and cancellation of Student Visa can result.
